Obituary: Bertie Alma Bryant, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, March 10, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, aquaair@erols.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- Bertie Alma Bryant, 95, of Tye River Community, Nelson County, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home, Amherst. Born March 23, 1907, in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel B. Bryant and Lola Catherine Wood Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nannie S. Proffitt and Mary Lucille Bryant; and six brothers, Clarence, Roy, Theodore, Cecil, Russell and Ernest. She was a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church at Tye River. A retired employee of First National Bank with over 45 years of service. A member and past worthy matron of Amherst Chapter #115 Order of Eastern Star and member and former treasurer of the Proud Land Rose Society. She is survived by her sisters, Madeline B. Staples and Georgia V. Bryant, both of Amherst; six nieces, Betty, Barbara Ann, Sandra, Wilma Lee, Karen and Mary Lee; eight nephews, Russell, Bobby, Billy, Jerry, Jimmy, Morris Lee, Johnny and Roy Jr.; and several great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the graveside in the Bryant Family Cemetery at Tye River with the Rev. John P. Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and suggest that memorials take the form of contributions to St. Stephens Baptist Church, 411 Falling Rock Dr., Amherst, Va. 22975. or Roseland Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 39, Roseland, Va. 22967.
