Obituary: Lloyd Cecil Campbell, 2002 Source: The News and Advance, Oct. 10, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow --------------------------------------------------------------- Lloyd Cecil Campbell, 78, of 166 Wells Road, Madison Heights, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the loving husband of Shirley Mays Campbell for 57 years. He was born in Nelson County, May 16, 1924, the son of the late Ralph and Mamie Mays Campbell. He was a member and trustee of Amelon United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men. An Army veteran of World War II, he retired from the Virginia National Guard with a combined service of 27 years. He also received a lifetime award from the Amherst Batteau Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Linda Woody and husband, Bud, Denise Bryant and husband, Larry; his sons, Dirk Campbell and wife, Kathy, all of Madison Heights and Winfred Campbell and wife, Dolores, of Forest; son-in-law, Ralph Lambert and sister, Ottie C. Bowling, of Amherst; foster brother, George Layne of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Donna, Becky, Mike, Lloyd, Melissa, Adam, Samantha and Jordan who will miss their "Papa"; also stepgrandchildren, Jenny, Jeremy, Angie, Chris and Dana; nine great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and a number of special family and friends. Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Lambert; a great-grandson, Dylan; brothers, Maurice and Robert Campbell; and sisters, Mary Tietjen, Nettie Mays and Janice Martin. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday in Amelon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Art Wolz and the Rev. C. Douglas Pillow. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Amelon United Methodist Church and other times at the residence. The family suggests memorials be made to the Amelon United Methodist Church Debit Retirement Fund.
