Obituary: Mrs. Viola (Bowen) Carter, 1969 Source: Unknown Newspaper Contributor: Ronnie Fitzgerald ----------------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Viola Carter, 85 of Clyde Rt. 2, died at 12.15 a.m. today (Monday, August 10, 1969) in the Haywood County Hospital (in North Carolina), following a short illness. She was a native of Greenfield Va., and had resided in Haywood County for the past 60 years. Her husband John S. Carter died in 1932. She was a member of Adial Baptist Church in Greenfield, Va. Surviving are two daughter, Mrs. Herman L. Haynes of Clyde and Mrs. Walter E. Wright of Knoxville Tenn.; three sons, Marvin J. of Schuyler, Va., William E. of Weaverville N.C. and Martin L. Carter of Clyde.; two sisters, Mrs. C.H. Wilson, of Ephworth ,Ga., and Mrs R.M. Fitzgerald of Schuyler, Va.; three brothers Frank Bowen of Wadsworth, Ohio, J.E. of Vero Beach. Fla., and John S. Bowen of Akron, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wells Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James E. Morgan, pastor of Clyde First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Haynes Family Cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Tuesday from 7 until 9 p.m. Contributor's notes: Viola was born April 20, 1884 in Nelson County, Virginia, the daughter of Ernest Sidney Bowen and Nancy Floyd Anderson. Viola Bowen and John S.
