OBITUARY: Adolphus F. Coffey, 1959 SOURCE: The News Leader, Dec. 11, 1959 CONTRIBUTOR: Carol Harlow ---------------------------------------------------------------------- STAUNTON - Adolphus Franklin Coffey, 82, died unexpectedly at 8:40 a.m. Monday at his home here where he had been living only a short time. He was born on Tye River, Nelson County, Sept. 23, 1877, a son of the late Alexander Coffey and Mrs. Sarah Fitzgerald Coffey. He had operated sawmills in Nelson County for many years and was a member of the First Church of Christ at Staunton. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Iola Hatter Coffey; four daughters, Mrs. Florence Norvellof Covesville; Mrs. Lillian Proffitt of Alexandria, Mrs. Ruby Mason of Route 2, Staunton, and Miss Gertrude Coffey of Staunton; six sons, Eugene Russell Coffey and Ralph Coffey, both of Waynesboro, Ray Franklin Coffey of Fredericksburg, Claude W. Coffey and Ross Coffey, both of Staunton, and the Rev. Malcolm H. Coffey of Bari, Italy; one sister, Mrs.Emmett B. Fitzgerald of the Beech Grove community, 18 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the First Church of Christ here, conducted by the Rev. Harvey C. Breahm and the Rev. Harvey G. Powell. Interment was in the Augusta Memorial Park near Waynesboro.
