OBITUARY: Iola Hatter Coffey, 1972 SOURCE: Unknown newspaper CONTRIBUTOR: Carol Harlow ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MRS.ADOLPHUS F.COFFEY Mrs. Iola (Hatter) Coffey, 89, formerly of Staunton, died Friday afternoon (Sept. 29, 1972) in Towers Hospital in Charlottesville. She was born in Nelson County Feb. 2, 1883, a daughter of Alonzo and Elizabeth (Lotts) Hatter. Mrs. Coffey was a member of Staunton Church of Christ. Surviving are five sons, Eugene and Ralph both of Waynesboro, the Ray Franklin of Fredericksburg, Ross of Staunton and the Rev. Malcolm H. Coffey of Bari, Italy; four daughters, Mrs. Florence Norvell of Covesville, Mrs. Lillian Proffitt of Alexandria, and Mrs. Ruby Mason and Miss Gertrude Coffey both of Rt. 2, Staunton; three brothers, Frank of Sherando, Columbus of West Virginia, and Carl Hatter of Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Willie Allen of Avon and Mrs. Jessie Sensabaugh of Lynchburg; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Adolphus F. Coffey, died Dec.7, 1959, and a son, Claude W. Coffey died in 1964. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon in Staunton Church of Christ by Lawrence Wilson, Dr. Harold Newlan of Charlottesville, and Mickey Darrow of Waynesboro. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be George and Burness Fitzgerald, Charles Berry, Ralph Hevener, Charles Gum, Myrle Vest and Robert Nuckoles. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
