Coffey SPOTTSWOOD - Mrs. Burgess Ramsey Coffey, 90, of Route 1, Box 324, Spottswood, died Monday morning (Jan. 18, 1993) in Waynesboro Community Hospital. She was born April 28, 1902, at- Montebello, a daughter of William and Serena Painter Ramsey. Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and had been a storekeeper and miller in the White Rock community and also a seamstress and an artist. She was a past member of the Tyro Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hercy Coffey and several brothers and sisters. Survivors Include three daughters, Mrs. A.L. (Marjorie) Hatter of Tyro, Mrs. Lura Steele of Spottswood, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Glenn (Lorine) Allen of Stuarts Draft; three grandsons and their wives, Robert and Carolyn Steele, Gary and Denice Allen, and Steven and Tammy Allen; a granddaughter and her husband, Ann and William Lyle; five great-grandchildren, Michele Harris and her husband Rodney, Tonya Grimm, Whitney Allen, Carrie Allen and Kaitlyn Allen; a foster grandson. Phillip Green; one sister, Lena Steele of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a very special friend, Martin Bradley. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Stuarts Draft chapel of Etter Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry W. Hopkins and Rudolph Ramsey with burial in the Hatter family cemetery at Tyro. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Steele, Gary Allen, Steve Allen, Martin Bradley, William Lyle, Buck Harris, Don Taylor and Rodney Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces, nephews and friends attending the service.
