Obituary: Ruth Ethel Cox, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, Saturday, October 18, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, aquaair@erols.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ruth Ethel Cox, 96, of Lovingston died Friday morning, October 17, 2003, at the Lovingston Health Care Center. Born Sept. 11, 1907, in Schuyler, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Cox and Carrie Norvell Cox. She was an active member of Nelson United Methodist Church, MWU of the Church, member of the Nelson Co. Business and Professional Women's Organization, member of the Proud Land Rose Society, past member of the board of directors of the Nelson Co. Chapter of the American Red Cross and served 15 years as secretary of the Nelson Co. Cancer Society. She was a graduate of Schuyler High School and continued her education at the University of Virginia after which she taught school in Amherst and Nelson Co. She was employed by the County of Nelson as a Clerk and Secretary to the County Administrator until her retirement. She was a correspondent for the Nelson County Times and the News Virginian at Waynesboro. She is survived by two Foster Sons Marion Massie Gleason and wife Alice and David Gleason and wife Irene. Her grandchildren Sharon Lawhorne and husband Kenny, Marion Gleason Jr. and wife Linda, Frances Lester and husband Douglas, Michael Gleason, Mark Gleason and wife Heidi, Marilyn and Melonie Gleason and Mathew Gleason; Great-grandchildren Stephanie Marchant, Eric and Kevin Lawhorne, Marion Massie III (Matt), Tyler, Zachery and Hannah Gleason, Amanda, Allison and Kirt Lester, Christopher, Michael and Katie Gleason, Bailey, Mitchell and Sophia Gleason; A great-great-grandchild Jacob Noah Marchant and several cousins; Howard, Jack, Buddy and Danny Craig, Nancy, Billy and Lee Norvell. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Nelson United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Hassmer and Rev. Randy Harlow officiating with Interment in Mt. View Cemetery in Lovingston. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. and suggest that memorials take the form of contributions to the Mt. View Cemetery, P.O. Box 295, Lovingston, Va. 22949, or Nelson United Methodist Church, 5239 Thomas Nelson Highway, Arrington, Va. 22922.
