Obituary: Mary Virginia Mawyer Dodd Source: The Daily Progress, December 18, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow ----------------------------------------------------------------- Mary Virginia Mawyer Dodd, 98, of Nellysford, died peacefully on Wednesday Dec. 18, 2002, at her home. She was born Feb. 15, 1905, at Adial, in Nelson County, a daughter of the late Edward Washington Mawyer and Lucy Jane Harris Mawyer. She was the widow of Claude N. Dodd whom died in 1971. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John James Dodd, who died in 1937; and a daughter, Hilda H. Willoughby who died in 1993. She was a member of rockfish Valley Baptist Church at Nellysford, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved by all that knew her. She is survived by six daughters, Lucy D. Campbell of Madison Heights, Genevieve D. Beyers and her husband, William of Forest Hill, Md., Polly Toth and her husband, Gaylord of Cleveland, Ohio, Kathleen D. Wall and her husband, Donald of Henderson, N.C., Juliett D. Hughes and her husband John of Manassas and Audrey D. Bell and her husband Lester of Lynchburg; three sons, C. Malcolm Dodd and his wife, Linda of Nellysford, Edward H. Dodd and his wife, Ruby of Lovingston and Phillip M. Dodd and his wife, Mary of Afton; 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston, with the Rev. Morris E. "Jack" Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the Rockfish Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers for Mrs. Dodd will be her grandsons. The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911, the Rockfish Valley Rescue Squad, Afton, Va. 22920 or Wintergreen Rescue Squad at Wintergreen, Va. 22958.
