NELSON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Nell (Reed) Embrey, 21 Dec 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Source: The Daily Progress, Thursday, December 24, 2003 Nell Reed Embrey, 90, of Lovingston, (Nelson County), died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at her residence. Born in Amherst on March 25, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Walter Pierce Reed and Nell Dearborn Reed. Most of her childhood was spent in Victoria, Va. After attending Sweet Briar College she worked for about 10 years in Baltimore, where she met her husband, Austin C. Embrey. In 1948, they moved back to his home in Lovingston. Her husband preceded her in death in 1988. In addition to being a correspondent for the Lynchburg News and other local papers, she was active on behalf of numerous community causes. She was also a member of Trinity Episcopal Church at Oak Ridge, where she sang in the choir and served in many capacities including the Vestry and Altar Guild. Survivors include a sister, Clarke Faudree of Bassett; two daughters; Samantha Embrey of Takoma Park, Md., and Susan Coleman and her husband, Clarence, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a son, Walter Reed Embrey and his wife, Jane, of Roanoke; and three grandchildren, Mary Catherine Freeman, Sally Embrey and Reilly Embrey. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Judy Parrish officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Embrey home. Interment will be held at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials take the form of donations to Trinity Episcopal Church, in care of Gerald H.
