Embrey, 89, of Rockfish DePot Community of Nelson County died Friday Morning Sept. 19, 2003, at his residence. Born January 27, 1915, at Rockfish DePot he was the son of the late Joseph Norman Embrey and Margaret Thurman Embrey. Mr. Embrey was a self employed farmer and drove a School Bus in Nelson County for 30 years. He always grew a large garden to share with family and friends in his community. Because he was the oldest resident of the Rockfish Community he had many visitors looking for their "Roots". He looked forward to family and neighborhood gatherings and his grandchildren loved to hear stories of his life growing up. The family would like to thank the community for their visits to him and for the love and support shown during his illness. J.N. as most knew him is survived by his wife Mary Lee Golladay Embrey; son Edward L. (Eddie) Embrey and wife, Marilyn of Rockfish DePot; a daughter Peggy E. Gifford and husband, John, of Mechanicsville; six grandchildren Mark E. Embrey of Rockfish Depot, Michael Gifford and Fiancée Heather Garrett of Richmond, Matthew Gifford of Richmond, Nathan Gifford of Radford, Tracey Ramsey and husband Josh of Staunton and Melanie Embrey of Christiansburg; a great-grandson Zachery N. Embrey; a sister Elizabeth Jones and husband, Clarence, of Whitehall and a devoted friend Herbert Page. He was preceded in death by a son Sgt. David N. Embrey; and a sister Valda E. Reed. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rock Spring United Methodist Church in Faber with Dr. Daniel Abbott and Rev. Adam White officiating with Interment in the Rock Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and suggest that those wishing to make memorial contributions consider Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mt. Pl.
