OBITUARY: BERNICE W. FITZGERALD, 1986 SOURCE: unknown newspaper CONTRIBUTOR: Carol Harlow ------------------------------------------------------ Bernice Wilson Fitzgerald, 71, husband of Mrs. May (Bowers) Fitzgerald of Rt. 1, Greenville, died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 1986) in Amherst County as a result of a logging accident. He was born on Dec. 25, 1915 in Montebello, a son of the late Robert and Birdie (Oliver) Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald had worked all his life in logging and hauling logs for other people. He also helped to build the Raphine Christian Church and was a charter member and elder of the church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Bobby Fitzgerald of Rt. 1, Greenville; three daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Cash and Mrs. Betty Lucas, both of Greenville, and Mrs. Carolyn Harlow of Spottswood; three brothers, Saylor B. Fitzgerald of Rt. 2, Staunton, and Matthew Fitzgerald and Manley Fitzgerald, both of Rt. 1, Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Jack of Marlboro, Mass., and Mrs. Rosa Laviolette of Rt. 1, Raphine; six half brothers, David Fitzgerald and Robert H. Fitzgerald Jr., both of Rt. 1, Greenville, Timothy Fitzgerald of Mint Spring, Andrew Fitzgerald of Charlottesville, Thomas Fitzgerald of Rt. 1, Greenville, and James Fitzgerald of California; one half sister, Miss Susan Fitzgerald of Charlottesville; six grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Cash, John W. Cash, Dana M. Cash, Susan M. Cash, Heather R. Harlow and Donald L. Harlow II; and one great-grandson, Matthew L. Cash. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer L. Fitzgerald, who died on Feb. 2, 1979. A service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Raphine Christian Church by John M. Ward. Burial will follow in Mt. Paran Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Swisher, Greg Smith, Ralph Hevener, Worth Bradley, Danny Barker and Wayne Mason. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Raphine Christian Church. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 8:30 in the Henry Funeral Home and at other times friends may call at the residence. It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial donations to the Raphine Christian Church Building Fund, P.0.
