Obituary: Carroll Edward Fitzgerald Source: The Daily Progress, December 2, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------------- Carroll Edward Fitzgerald, 82, of Shipman, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at his residence. Born Jan. 16, 1920, in Shipman, (Nelson County), he was a son of the late Percy Fitzgerald and Edna Wood Fitzgerald. He was a retired mechanic with the Virginia Department of Highways, Amherst Division, with more than 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florine, on Oct. 14, 1998, and two brothers, Peyton T. Fitzgerald and Graham R. Fitzgerald. He is survived by his sister, Ruby F. Thompson of Shipman; two stepdaughters, Doris C. Gibson of Stuarts Draft and Helen C. Graves of Sanford, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davis Cemetery, Shipman, with the Rev. Robert Massie and the Rev. Peyton Fitzgerald Jr. officiating. Friends may call anytime today at the funeral home.
