NELSON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Earl "Bug" Hastings Griffin Jr., 14 May 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Source: The Daily Progress, Saturday May 15, 2004 Earl "Bug" Hastings Griffin Jr. of Buckingham, departed this life Friday, May 14, 2004, at McGuire Veterans Hospital. He was born Jan. 4, 1923, at Shipman, (Nelson County), Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl H. Griffin Sr. and Mary Tyler Griffin; his first wife, Evelyn Gregory Griffin; his brother, Tommie C. Griffin; and his step-granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Micklem He is survived by his wife, Eunice M. Griffin; his son, Bruce Hastings Griffin of Appomattox, Va.; his stepsons, Patrick E. Micklem and his wife, Joyce, of Arrington, Glenn Micklem and his wife, Stephanie, of Madison Heights; step-daughter, Rhonda Simpson and her husband, Allen, of Stafford. Two grandchildren, and seven step-grandchildren. Three sisters, Lucille Diehr of Manassas, Bernice Wells of Shipman, and Gwen Wood and her husband, Robert, of Charlottesville, Va. He was a Veteran of World War II. He served in Africa and Italy, where he was wounded, and received the Purple Heart. He also received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8446, past Deacon of Mulberry Grove Baptist Church of which he was a dedicated member, and worker. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church, Buckingham, Va. Family will receive friends at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
