Barbara Davis Gunter, 72, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at her residence. 
Born in Nelson County, on Feb. 2, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Sheffy Lee, and Robbie Thompson Davis. She was a member of Wintergreen Christian Church and was a retired school bus driver for the Nelson County School System. 
She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Jesse Franklin Gunter; three sons, Larry Dean Gunter of Arrington, Dennis Wayne Gunter of Nellysford, and Jesse F. Gunter III of Spotyslvania; three daughters, Sonya G. Reid of Afton, Sherry G. Byers of Shipman and Lisa G. Stevens of Roseland; one brother, Kenneth P. Davis of Nellysford; two sisters, Dorothy Apple of Richmond and Charlotte Campbell of Waynesboro; 14 Grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous half brothers, and sisters. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, James Gregory Jordan. 
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, in Wintergreen Christian Church Cemetery. Casual attire is requested. The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Lisa, at 5619 Cub Creek Road, Roseland. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockfish Valley Rescue Squad, 10921 Rockfish Valley Road, Afton VA 22920.
