Obituary: Howard Albert Goff Source: The Daily Progress , August 15, 2003 Contributor: Jim McRay jmcray@cfw.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howard Albert Goff, 70, of Camellia Drive, Charlottesville, died Thursday morning, August 14, 2003, at his residence after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Nelson County, Feb. 22, 1933, he was a son of the late Dabney H. Goff and Julia Phillips Goff. Howard was a retired salesman with Kirtley Distributions with 34 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. He attended Grace Baptist Church on Rio Road in Charlottesville. Howard had a great fondness for his canine friend, Pepper, and for the cattle he raised and continued to care for throughout his illness. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Moyer, Margaret Pace, Mattie Thompson and Bertha Weeks; and two brothers, James Dillard Goff and Calvin Goff. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Frances C. Goff; a daughter and her husband, Tammy and Randall Leake of Lake Monticello; a son, Randy Goff and his special friend, Valerie Gibson, of Gordonsville; a sister, Amanda Phillips of Richmond; two brothers, Gilbert Goff and Melvin Goff, both of Faber; two sisters-in-law, Helen Goff of Lovingston and Daisy Goff of Faber; two grandsons, Justin Leake and Hunter Leake; two step grandsons, Brock Gibson and Derrick Taylor; one granddaughter, Brooke Leake; a step grand- daughter, Shirlene Shaver, and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Charlottesville with Pastor Johnny Hartless officiating. Interment will follow in Nelson County. Family will receive friends at the Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, 828 Front Street in Lovingston, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family wishes to express a very special appreciation to Dr. Gordon Morris and the staff at the Martha Jefferson Cancer Center, the Hospice of the Piedmont, members of Grace Baptist Church and all the family and friends for their love and support.
