Melvin, Goff, age 72, of Shiloh Loop, Faber died Friday morning Jan. 2, 2004, at his residence. Born Feb. 21, 1931, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Dabney Goff and Julia Phillips Goff. He was a retired self-employed excavator and worked at his profession for over 40 years in Nelson and surrounding counties. He was a member of the Rockfish Masonic Lodge #108 AF & AM. and a member of Rock Spring United Methodist. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by seven siblings and his wife, Ruth Ponton Goff. He is survived by three sons, Robert Michael Goff, Jeffrey Franklin Goff and wife Kimberly all of Faber and George Gregory Goff and wife Rhonda of Amherst; one daughter, Kimberly Gay Hoffman and husband Robert of Forest; one brother, Gilbert H. Goff of Faber; and one sister, Amanda G. Phillips of Richmond; three sister-in-laws, Daisy Goff, Frances Goff and Helen Goff; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A funeral service will be held Sunday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Rock Spring United Methodist Church in Faber with the Rev. Daniel Abbott officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Spring Cemetery with Masonic Rites being accorded by Rockfish Masonic Lodge #108 AF&AM. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and suggest that those wishing to make memorial contributions consider the Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mtn.
