Obituary: Alvis Wesley Grant, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, April 13, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alvis Wesley Grant, 81, of Shipman, died Friday evening, April 11, 2003, at the Lovingston Health Care Center. Born September 21, 1921, in Nelson County, he was the son of the late William Henry Grant and Lena Thompson Grant. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Mangus Grant, James Preston Grant, William Carlton Grant and Douglas Grant; and a sister, Blanche Fields. He was a retired Construction Superintendent and a member of Antioch Pentecostal Holiness Church at Shipman. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle Virginia Coffey Grant; three sons, Charles W. Grant and his wife, Heather, of Amherst, James A. Grant Sr., and his wife, Frances, of Shipman and Larry W. Grant and his wife, Shirleen, of Stafford; one daughter, Joan Johnson and her husband, Mike, of Lynchburg; one sister, Lucretia Keister, of Staunton; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A service will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at 7 p.m. at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston, with the Rev. Nancy Grant officiating with interment in the Grant Family Cemetery at Shipman.
