OBITUARY: William L. Harris, 1951 SOURCE: (Newspaper Unknown) CONTRIBUTOR: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------- Funeral service for William L. Harris, Lyndhurst, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the McDow-Tyree Funeral Home. Private Harris died July 31, 1951 in Japan of wounds received July 7, 1951 in Pursan, Korea. Son of William B. and Margie M. Harris, Lyndhurst, he was born July 5, 1931 in Clifton Forge. He spent most of his life in the Lyndhurst area and attended Stuarts Draft School. He entered the army in September 1948, and took basic training at Ft. Jackson, S. C. He served 15 months on Okinawa, and returned to the United States for duty at Ft. Belvoir. He left for Korea in January 1951. Prior to entering the service, he was employed by Andrew Mast, Stuarts Draft. He was better known as "Sambo" Harris. Beside his parents, he is survived by one brother, Albert R. (Harris), Lyndhurst; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Benson, Stuarts Draft; Mrs. Pearl Galloway, Waynesboro; Mrs. Christine Taylor, Lyndhurst; and Miss Harris, at home; paternal grandmother Mrs. Nelia Harris, Lyndhurst; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Truslow, Nellysford. He is also survived by a number of aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Guy Stump and Dr. H. C. MacPherson. (Internment will be in the Mt.
