Obituary: Lizzie Smith Hicks, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, June 23, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lizzie Smith Hicks, 90, of Charlottesville, at rest with the Lord, Sunday, June 22, 2003, in a local hospital. Born December 7, 1912, in Faber, (Nelson County), Va., she was the daughter of the late John Daniel Smith and Kimmie Jane Puckett Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Jefferson Hicks; two sons, Earl W. Hicks and Patrick J. Hicks Jr.; six sisters, Sophie Snow, Margaret Hicks, Bertha Woods, Ruby Tennell, Annie Weaver, and Mrytle Smith; and four brothers, Howard Smith, Norvelle Smith, Everett Smith, and John Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Ruby H. Gardner and her husband, Sanford of Charlottesville; her son Thomas E. Hicks and his wife, Joyce of Ruckers- ville; two brothers, Leslie Smith and Oakley Smith, both of Faber; four grand- children; Tommy Hicks Jr. of Stanardsville, Amy Jo Hicks and Melissa Gibson, both of Ruckersville, and Jeffrey W. Hicks of Charlottesville; six great-grand- children; and many nieces, nephews, special friends and care givers. Mrs. Hicks was a long time member of Mountain Plain Baptist Church at Mechums River and also retired from Morton Frozen Foods. She will be missed and leave many memories to all who knew her. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Teague Chapel with the Rev. Wellford Tiller and the Rev. Larry Wingfield officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain Plain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Teague Funeral Home. The family would like to give special thanks to Riverdale Nursing Home, Martha Jefferson Hospital and Dr. Hammond for the care given to Mrs. Hicks. Pallbearers will be Shirley Hicks, Shields Hicks, Micajah A. Hicks, Jr., Tommy Hicks, Jr., Jeffery W. Hicks, and E.B. Hicks.
