Hughes - Entered into Eternal Rest Saturday July 26, 1986 John Pershing Hughes, 67, of Rt. 1 died Saturday, July 26, 1986 in Waynesboro Community Hospital. Born April 20, 1919, in Afton, he was the son of the late Lewis and Susie Higginbotham Hughes. He was retired from Morton’s Frozen Foods in Crozet and a member of The Teamsters Union Local # 29. He was a member of Rockfish Valley Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Frances Higginbotham Hughes; two sons, John Peyton Hughes of Alexandria and Herbert Forrest Hughes of Charlottesville; one daughter Judy H. Tharpe of Charlottesville; one brother, Nelson F. Hughes of Stuarts Draft; one sister, Susie H. Mawyer of Faber, six grandchildren and two great grand- children. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Rockfish Valley Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Steven Melton, interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Mawyer, Sammy Mawyer, Joey Hughes, John Leslie Thompson, Sr., Ray Falls, Malcolm Dodd, J.L. Thompson, Jr., Bruce Griffith. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the church and friends of the family.
