Hughes ROSELAND - Claude Metford Hughes, 89 of Washington, D.C. formerly of Roseland, died at 5:40 p.m. Friday in Waynesboro Cmmunity Hospital after suffering a coronay attack. Mr. Hughes had been spending the summer with his sister Blanche Anderson. Born Feb. 22, 1870, in Roseland he was the son of the late John P. and Sallie Goodwin Hughes. His wife the former Sallie Mann, died in 1941. Mr. Hughes was a conductor for the Southern Railway Co., For 48 years. After his retirement in 1936, he dealt in securities and mortgages. He was a member of Mount Vernon Place Methodist Church in Washington and during the Summer months he attended Beech Grove Christian Church. He was member of a Masonic Lodge in Washington and the Aca Temple Shrine in Richmond. Surviving are two sisters.
