Obituary: Walter Homer Johnson Sr, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, March 30, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Walter Homer Johnson Sr., 82, of Hunting Lodge Road, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at his residence. Born in Nelson County at Faber on March 10, 1921, he was the son of the late Willie Johnson and Florence Currier Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a former operator for Bridgewater Sawmill. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Maybelle Martin Johnson; one son, Walter H. Johnson Jr.; one sister, Hallie "Pete" Johnson; and three brothers, Robert Johnson, Edgar Johnson, and Everett Johnson. Survivors include two daughters, Jenny Mae Fitzgerald and her husband, Frank, of Schuyler, and Nancy A. Narron and her husband, Kenny, of Hopewell; four sons, Hank W. Johnson and Richard H. Johnson, both of Hopewell, Joe Lee Johnson and his wife, Debra, of DeWitt, Va., and Charles W. Banton and his wife, Michelle, of Chester; a sister, Ruby J. Simpson, of Fredericksburg; two brothers, John H. Johnson and his wife, Sandra, of Alexandria, and Bernard W. Johnson, of Charlottesville; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2003, at Wells/ Sheffield Funeral Chapel with the Dr. Reverend Mike Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Davis Creek. Military graveside honors will be accorded by VFW Post #7701. Family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.
