NELSON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Robert Livingston (Buck) Phillips, 5 Feb 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Robert L. Phillips The Daily Progress, Saturday, February 07, 2004 Robert Livingston (Buck) Phillips, 83, of Lovingston, (Nelson County), died Thursday night Feb. 5, 2004, in Blackstone Nursing Home. Born Jan. 26, 1921, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late John E. Phillips and Sadie Hughes Phillips. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Larry; two daughters, Roberta and Jean Ann; and a brother, Johnny. In growing up, he participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC'S) during the 1930s and later spent time logging and farming. During the 1960s and 1970s he was a truck driver for Blue Ridge Grocery Co. of Waynesboro, from which he retired, and a part-time electrician. He was a man of simple means who enjoyed being outside and gardening at his previous home on Spruce Creek in Nelson County. He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl L. Eggleston and husband, John, of Lovingston and Susan L. Campbell and husband, Wade, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; one son Robert L. Phillips Jr. and wife, Rhonda, of Sherando; three sisters, Anita Patterson of Nellysford, Leola Bruce of Lyndhurst and Lib Osmond of Charlottesville; one brother, Cheatwood Phillips of Port Republic; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, in the Rockfish Valley Baptist Church Cemetery at Nellysford with the Rev. John P. Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at the funeral home and suggest that memorials take the form of contributions to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 264, Lovingston, VA 22949 or the Rockfish Valley Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 311, Nellysford, VA 22958.
