  ARRINGTON - Buford Owen Lawhorne, 73, of Arrington, died Wednesday morning, 
July 17, 2002 at the Veterans Center in Salem. 
  Born Jan. 23, 1929 in Nelson County (Roseland) he was a son of the late 
Ruben and Jenny Ramsey Lawhorne. He was an employee of Virginia Metal Crafters 
in Waynesboro prior to retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of 
Antioch Pentecostal Church of Shipman. 
  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Hudson Lawhorne; three sons, 
Buford William Lawhorne of Macungie, Pa., Thomas L. Lawhorne of Pottstown, Pa. 
and Bruce O. Lawhorne of Lovingston; two daughters, Melissa L. Maynard of 
Clifford and Joyce L. Cheatham of Lovingston; three sisters, Emma DeBoard of 
Harrisburg, Pa., Vera Taylor of Stafford and Fannie Mawyer of Arrington; one 
brother, Jesse Lawhorne of Pottstown, Pa., 13 grandchildren, one great-
grandchild, two step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. 
  A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002 at Wells/
Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston with Dr. Michael Fitzgerald officiating 
with the Rev. Joseph D. Wilkins assisting. Interment in Bethlehem Church 
Cemetery in Roseland. 
  The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home 
and suggest that memorials take the form of contributions to the Clifford Baptist 
Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 88, Clifford, Va. 24533.
