Obituary: Freeman Gordon Lee, 2002 Source: The News Advance and The Daily Progress, July 30, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow ------------------------------------------------------------------ AFTON - Freeman Gordon Lee, 72, of Taylor Creek Road, Afton, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Lovingston. Born Dec. 31, 1929, in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Freeman Gaylord Lee and Odeissa Warlord Lee. Gordon received a multi-disciplinary bachelor's degree from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio, a master's degree in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University, and finished his post-graduate work in Public Administration and Policy at VIP at Blacksburg. He was an engineer, registered in Virginia and California, a certified professional Logistician by the Society of Logistics Engineers, and had an Advanced Professional Designation in Logistics Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict in several battles with numerous decorations to his credit. He is listed in the following publications: "American Men of Science," "Who's Who in Space," "Directory of International Biography," "Royal Blue Book," "The Two Thousand Men of Achievement," and "Who's Who in the South and Southwest." He was an internationally respected Scientist, Engineer, and Scholar. He was a fellow of The British Interplanetary Society, the sectional V.P. of the American Rocket Society, senior member of the American Astronomical Society, a fellow of the Society of American Military Engineers, a member of the National Board of Directors, President of the Fort Belviar Post, a Senior member of the Society of Logistics Engineer, and an officer and instructor in Logistics Engineering. Gordon had won the "GOLD" First Hearst Trophy Metal for national Rifle Championship from the University of Maryland, was an accomplished skier, having competed in the U.S., Canada, Italy, and Switzerland. He was a champion boxer, holding the Golden Gloves for the Mediterranean Theater (U.S. Army). Chess was one of his favorite games. He was a member of the Scouts for more than 30 years, studied Aikdo under Major Morton Sherzer at Redstone Arsenal, AL. and Tae Kwon Do at Rockfish Valley. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Potter Lee; three daughters, Lucille Jean Lee of Afton, Melodie Susan Potter of Lorton, and Celeste Ann Selby of Grieshiem, Germany; a son, Montgomery Delta Lee of Afton; a grandson, Philip Gordon Lee; and two step- grandchildren, Cassandra Eve Nelson and Robert Mark Nelson. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday morning at the family residence at 6229 Taylor Creek Rd., Afton, with interment in the family cemetery. Friends may call at the residence at any time on Thursday.
