Obituary: Virginia (Gray) Matheny Lenehan, 1989 Source: Unknown newspaper Contributor: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------------- AFTON - Mrs. Virginia Matheny Lenehan, 78, of Route 2, Afton died early Tuesday morning (Aug. 15, 1989) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Ray Matheny. She was born in Albemarle County on June 18, 1911, a daughter of Claude and Eva Truslow Gray (of Nelson County). Surviving are her husband, Charlie Lenehan; a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Bowles of Waynesboro; five sons, Earl Ray Matheny Jr. of Lovingston, and Robert l. Matheny, James D. Matheny and Donald W. Matheny, all of Afton; an adopted son, Alvin L. Lenehan of Afton; two sisters, Edna Murell of Nebraska and Dorothy Fitzgerald of Baltimore, Md., and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Matheny. A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Holy Cross Episcopal Church by the Rev. Howard LaRue. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Lenehan, Sid Shirley, Robert Hall, Harvey Morris, Henry Morris, W.K. Smith, Ray Barksdale Jr., Frank Sprouce, Massie Hughes and Joey Sheffield.
