Mary Sylvestia Jeffries Lewis-Allen 
  Mrs. Mary Sylvestia Jeffries Lewis-Allen, (85), departed this life 
Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Md. 
  She was born in Gladstone (Nelson County) on June 2, 1917, the daughter 
of the late John Ivory Jeffries and Hattie Rebecca Megginson-Jeffries of 
Nelson County. 
  She leaves to fondly cherish her memory her son, Colonel John H. Lewis Jr. 
(U.S. Army, Retired); grandson, Marcus D. Lewis and wife, Kristin; three 
sisters, Alma Frederick, Bertha Jackson and Hattie Gibson; two brothers-in-
law, Johns Spencer and Earl Jackson; former daughter-in-law, Christina Lewis; 
a devoted and caring friend of the son, Vernice Musgrove; and a host of nieces, 
nephews, cousins and friends. 
  A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, 
at Community Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Q. Lawing Jr. officiating. 
Interment will be in the Jeffries Family Cemetery in Gladstone. Her remains will 
be on view from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  The family will receive friends from 2-2:30 p.m. Community Funeral Home 
directing.
