Obituary: Clarence Edward Mays, 2002 Source: The News Advance, Sept. 26, 2002 Contributor: Charlie Truslow ----------------------------------------------------------- (Clarence) Edward Mays, 81, of Roseland, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 in Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg. Born in Nelson County, Aug. 1, 1921, he was a son of the late Joseph Cephes Mays and Cora Etta Mays. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and retired from American Cyanamid after 28 years of service. He raised a garden every year and loved working outside. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Catherine Mays; three daughters, Remonia Jean Campbell Davis, Betty Ann Weinbender DeWeese and Sylvia Mays Bradley; one brother, Ruben Herbert Mays, three sisters, Colelda Johnson, Marjorie Campbell and Darlene Gibson; four grandchildren, Robin Cawley, Anthony (Tony) Edward Weinbender, Cherie Patrick and Michelle Kidd; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, David, and Cecil Mays, three sisters, Gladys Mays, Lucille Cash and Flossie Campbell, and a granddaughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Dawn Campbell. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by the Rev. John Ragland, with burial in Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. on Friday.
