Obituary: Thelma H. Mayo, 2002 Source: The Charlottesville Daily Progress Contributor: Ronnie Fitzgerald --------------------------------------------------------------- Thelma H. Mayo Thelma H. Mayo, 101, of Schuyler, died Monday, April 15, 2002, in a local hospital. Born Aug. 4, 1900, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Hamilton Harris and Sally Ann Thomas Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Mayo; a sister Helen Harris Mayo; and three brothers, Russell Harris, Samuel Harris and Clarence Harris. Thelma was an active member of the Schuyler Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, she was a member of the choir, and was clerk of Schuyler Baptist Church until she was 95 years old. She received several awards recognizing her for her work in the church and service to her community. In August of 2001, in recognition of her 100th birthday, Thelma was honored by her friends at the Walton’s Mountain Museum. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Carolyn Harris White, Don Harris, James Harris, C. E. Harris, Juanita Harris Warren, Cynthia Gregory, Malcolm Harris and Joyce Mayo Cofer. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Hill & Wood Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
