"Sam" Moyer, age 60, was found in his car early Tuesday morning, dead of an apparent heart attack. Autopsy results were expected late Wednesday. Moyer was on his way to the Faber Fire and Rescue Squad building after placing a call to them complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. A passerby discovered his car overturned off an embankment on Rt. 639 in Nelson County. "He's going to be hard to replace," said Scottsville Mayor R. Stephen Phipps. "He was just very community oriented. That's exactly why we hired him. He's the kind of guy that's going to be missed not only professionally, but personally. Not only for me, but lots of folks. He had a lot of good friends." Moyer worked with the Wintergreen Police Department and the Nelson County Sheriff's Office before making the switch to Scottsville. Prior to that, he had a 20-year career in the Navy, and had retired in 1991. Phipps appointed officer Chan Gianinny acting police chief until the department can hire a successor for Moyer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Lovingston. ****************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
