Obituary: Virginia (Thurmond) Newman, 77 Source: The News and Advance, July 23, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, dtruslow2002@msn.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Virginia Thurmond Newman, 77, of 5407 Boonsboro Road, passed away Monday, July 22, 2002, at her home. She was the wife of Earle Albert Newman Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Newman celebrated their 58th anniversary in June of this year. Born Oct. 18, 1924, in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie B. and Sallie Bowling Thurmond. Mrs. Newman was the retired office manager of Baldwin Department Store with 32 years of service and also retired from Foster Electric Company with 14 years of service. She was a member of Inglewood Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Newman is survived by one son, Earle A. "Al" Newman III of Coleman Falls; two daughters, Dana N. Ferguson and her husband, Ken and Carolyn N. Baldwin and her husband, Monroe all of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Monroe G. "Trey" Baldwin III, Earle A. Newman IV, Ryan K. Ferguson, Paul T. Baldwin and Lindsay B. Ferguson and one great-grandchild, Tristen S. Baldwin. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. David Thurman, Pastor of Inglewood Baptist Church, officiating. A private family interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Carolyn, 1079 Macon Loop, Lynchburg.
