Obituary: Henry Albert Nowak, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, June 12, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, aquaair@erols.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Henry Albert Nowak, 84, of 1198 Rodes Valley Dr. Nellysford, (Nelson County), Va., died Monday, June 9, 2003. Born September 27, 1918 in Cuxhaven, Germany, Mr. Nowak was the son of the late Albert Nowak and the late Henrietta Nowak. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wilhelm Nowak. Mr. Nowak served in the German military during World War II before coming to the United States in 1949. He moved to Wintergreen in 1978 where he served as head of maintenance until his retirement at age 70. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne Hansen Nowak. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Frederick A. and Gail R. Nowak of Steeles Tavern; his daughter and son-in-law Willie and Ken Zelenakas of Woodbridge, N.J.; and a sister-in- law, Kathe Roberts of California. He is survived by six grandchildren, of whom he was proud. They are Paul A. Nowak and his wife, Kirsten; Gregory H. Nowak, Therese N. Schooley and her husband, Chris, Liesel A. Nowak, Andrea Zelenakas, and Karl A. Zelenakas. Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro. Pastor Robert Humphrey will officiate. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Nowak’s name to the church’s building fund, 500 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, Va. 22980.
