Obituary: John Robert Patrick, 2000 Source: The Daily Progress, February 22, 2000 Contributor: Mary Woolls, Mara5wool@aol.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ John Robert Patrick, 84, of Afton, died early Monday morning, Feb. 21, 2000, at his residence. He was born June 3, 1915, in Nelson County, son of Sidney and Lacy Truslow Patrick. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a former employee of Morton Frozen Foods, a self employed sawmill worker, and a member of Beech Grove Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by two brothers, James and William Patrick; and one sister, Lelia Weaver. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Patrick, a son, Roger Lee Patrick of Afton; three daughters, Shirley Bragg and June Taylor, both of Afton and Patricia Broyles of Hot Springs; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A service will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday at Beech Grove Christian Church by the Rev. Whitney Critzer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339 will conduct military rites at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be Homer Weaver, Jimmy and Jake Taylor, Carl McGann, Barry Patrick, Jimmy Lawhorne, buck Haney and John Harvey Falls. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm this evening at Reynolds Funeral Services, Waynesboro, and other times at the residence.
