OBITURARY: Fannie E. Perry, 1946 SOURCE: Unknown newspaper CONTRIBUTOR: Diane Lamb -------------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Perry Dies, Age 91 Was One Of City's Oldest Residents Mrs. Fannie E. Perry, 91, one of Waynesboro's oldest residents and one who made her home here for nearly 67 years, died at 12:20 p.m. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Arey, 428 Linden Avenue with whom she has made her home in recent years. She had been ill for the past three years. Born in Nelson County, April 24, 1855, Mrs. Perry was daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Moses B. Hughes. Her father was a brother of the late Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes' grandfather, he being the eldest son and Mrs. Perry's father the youngest son. She was also a member of the Ball family of Virginia, which numbers among its members the mother of George Washington. Mrs. Perry came to Waynesboro to live in 1880. Her husband, the late Robert B. Perry, who died April 26, 1912, had served in the War Between the States from the first to the last battles. During the recent war, Mrs. Perry watched with interest and pride, the activities of her 35 nephews who were serving on various battlefronts of the world. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here, the oldest member on the church's roll. Survivors are a son, R. A. Perry, Wilson, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. C. R.
