Obituary: John William Puckett, died Jan. 8, 1985 Published: Unknown Newspaper Contributor: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------------------- John William Puckett, 78, formerly of Afton, died Tuesday afternoon in Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was born in Nelson County Oct. 6, 1906, a son of the late Edward and Florence Truslow Puckett. Mr. Puckett was a member of Afton Chapel for many years and retired in 1968 from Wayne Manufacturing Co. after 29 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Florence Izetta Puckett, on Sept. 29, 1978, and by a sister, Mrs. Bertha Puckett Moses. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Louise Puckett Robertson of Lynhurst and Mrs. Evelyn Puckett Milstead of Waynesboro; two step-daughters, Mrs. Rossie Fitzgerald Langley of Waynesboro and Mrs. Elizabeth Fitzgerald Craig of Batesville; two step- sons, Gilbert M. Fitzgerald and James W. Fitzgerald, both of Waynesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Leona Puckett Booth, Mrs. Signora Puckett Campbell, both of Waynesboro, and Mrs. Isabelle Puckett Williams of Mechanicsville; four brothers, Irvin Puckett and Wilson Puckett, both of Waynesboro, Eugene "Bud" Puckett of Afton, and Earl Puckett of Norfolk; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 11 a. m. tomorrow in the Waynesboro Chapel of Etter Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John Chaffee and the Rev. Ernest S. Love, with internment in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Michael Fitzgerald, Steve Fitzgerald, Russell Fitzgerald, Alan Langley and Paul A. Langley. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.
