"Bud" Puckett, age 76, of 3031 Dick Woods Road, left to be with the Lord Thursday, October 12, 1995 at 4:10 a.m. at the University of Virginia Hospital. He was born in Nelson County, July 4, 1919, son of the late Eddie and Florence Truslow Puckett. Mr. Puckett was a World War II Army Veteran, serving in the European Theater, 115th Field Artillery. He was a distinguished recipient of the following metals: Honor, Fidelity and Efficiency, Army of Occupation in Germany, European, African Middle Eastern Campaign, American Defense and various driver and mechanic metals. Having served proudly, he was discharged in November 1945. He was a lifetime member of the Stuarts Draft V.F.W. Post 9339, and a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Chapter Skyline 30. Mr. Puckett was a founding member of the Mountain View Full Gospel Church of Afton. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Louise Scott Puckett; three daughters and their husbands, Glenda (Cookie) and Danny Atkins of Gordonsville, Barbara (Bobbie Jean) and Morgan Moses of Charlottesville, Patricia (Pat) and Richard Skwarlo of Afton; four grandchildren, Randall Atkins, Wendy Mahanes, Kim Cappuzzo and Jeff Halterman; four great-grandchildren, Darreion Atkins, Travis Smithson, Jeremy and Amber Halterman. A fifth great-grandchild is due November 8. Survivors also include one brother, Earl Puckett of Norfolk; one sister, Isabell Williams of Waynesboro and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Waynesboro Chapel of Etter - Reynolds Funeral Service conducted by the Rev. Claude Floyd and the Rev. Ronald Watson, with burial following at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Stuarts Draft V.F.W. Post 9339. Active pallbearers will be Hobert Bourne, Grover Fitzgerald, Arthur Carter, John Payne, Jim Miller and Carl Dickerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Russell Sawyer, Dr. C.F. Starley, John White, David Berry, Rev. Scott Jewel and members of the D.A.V. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
