NELSON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Geraldine Elizabeth (Elcho) Peirce, 31 Jan 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Source: The Daily Progress, Monday, February 02, 2004 Geraldine Elizabeth Peirce, 75, of Rockfish Lane, Faber died Saturday Jan. 31, 2004 in a Charlottesville Hospital. Born April 20, 1928 in New York City she was a daughter of the late Joseph M. Elcho and Mary "Mae" Jadigo. While living in New Jersey for 25 years, Mrs. Peirce was co-founder and volunteer for THE FISH (a Neighbor-helping-Neighbor group), two time Chairman of STELLARAMA (Sussex County unit of American Cancer Society variety show fundraiser), longtime member and President of the Sussex County Business and Professional Women's Club, Co-Founder and 1st President of Domestic Abuse Services, INC. (A shelter program of victims of domestic violence) and also served as a hotline and victim's advocate. She was also awarded a plaque and honored as Volunteer of the Year of Domestic Abuse Services, INC. After moving to Nelson County she continued her community involvement as a member of BPW, NOW and Senior Statesmen of Virginia. She also was a past President and Secretary for the Rockfish Valley Ruritan Club, Incoming Secretary for 2002, Chairman for eight years for "March Madness Flea Fair" (a community service and fundraiser for the Rockfish Valley Ruritan Club), seven year Food Chairman for the annual Ruritan horse show, two year Chairman for the Virginia Miniature Horse Show held at Ruritan Park, Chairman of the Rockfish Valley Ruritan Club 50th Anniversary Dinner and Celebration in 2000, compiled the 50th Anniversary Cookbook for the Rockfish Valley Ruritan Club, Editor for the RVRC monthly newsletter since 1997 and served as Public Relations Chairman. Mrs. Peirce was also an on-call volunteer with SHE (Shelter for Help in Emergency) and a charter member of the Rockfish Valley Community Center. Besides her parents she is also preceded in death by one sister: Joan E. MacGregor; and her husband Earl Peirce. She is survived by two sisters: Janet A. Psychas of Palm City, Fla. and Jean M. Dunn and husband, John, of Rock Tavern, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Sharon Corbin and husband, Charles; two stepsons: Gregory Peirce and Stephen Peirce; cousins Lynn and Jack Balchunas of Amherst; stepgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at the Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston.
