NELSON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Harry Lee Phillips Sr., 22 Feb 2004 ----¤¤¤---- News Virginian Monday, February 23, 2004 Harry L. Phillips Sr. World War II veteran ALEXANDRIA - Harry Lee Phillips Sr., 85, formerly of Nelson County, died Sunday (Feb. 22, 2004) at Inova Mt. Vernon Hospital in Alexandria. Born in Nelson County, on Oct. 11, 1918, he was a son of the late Samuel C. and Sissie Powell Phillips. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tempest Hughes Phillips, on Nov. 26, 1998. Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was the recipient of the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the EAME Campaign Medal. He was a lifelong member of Rockfish Valley Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Harry L. Phillips Jr. of Frostville, Calif., and Douglas W. Phillips and his wife, JoAnn, of Bordentown, N.J.; one daughter, Margaret P. Stanley and her husband, Wayne, of Alexandria; a sister- in-law, Mrs. Dot Phillips of New Jersey; one grandchild; and two great- grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 25, 2004) in Rockfish Valley Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. John Chafee with military honors by VFW Post 7701 of Colleen and American Legion Post 17 of Shipman.
