Obituary: Henry Luther Rittenhouse, 2002 Source: The Daily Progress, December 28, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow ------------------------------------------------------------------- Henry Luther "Luke" Rittenhouse, 91, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in a local nursing home. Born February 27, 1911, in Nelson County, he was the son of the late John James and Carrie Kent Rittenhouse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, William, Julian and Jack; one sister, Nellie R. Camden; a granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Quick; and a son-in-law, Keith Quick. In his 20's Luke served with the Civilian Conservation Corps and had worked all his life as a farm manager. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since 1960; he was a member of Horseshoe Hunt Club in Scottsville, and Greenwood Community Center Bowling League. He is survived by his children, Faye R. Rigby of Troy, Carole R. Craig and her husband, the Rev. Sidney Craig, of Charlottesville, L. Hale Rittenhouse and his wife, Jean-nette, of Nelson County and Judy R. Quick of Monroe, N.C.; two brothers, Madison K. "Pete" Rittenhouse of Waynesboro, and Jesse Lee Rittenhouse, of Charlottesville; two sisters, Gladys R. Belew of Waynesboro, and Agnes F. Lucas of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Lucy, Elza and Margaret Rittenhouse. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Chafee officiating. Burial will follow in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911, Hebron Baptist Church, 66 Tanbark Drive, Afton, Va. 22920, or Mt. Eagle Baptist Church, 2419 Buck Mountain Rd. 22902.
