Obituary: John Burgess Rittenhouse, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, February 22, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------------------- John Burgess Rittenhouse, 96, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Memorial Regional Medical Center, Hanover. He was born Feb. 18, 1907, in Faber, in (Nelson County), the eldest son of the late John James Rittenhouse and Claudie Lee Ball Rittenhouse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, M. Lorene Deane Rittenhouse; two infant sons, Ottie Ray Rittenhouse and Albert Eugene Rittenhouse; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Frances C. Sawyer of Norfolk and Barbara L. Raymond and her husband, Don of Mechanicsville; two sisters, Elise Franklin and Lyla Fallon; one brother, Kemper Rittenhouse, all of Maryland; six grandchildren, Nancy Besier and her husband, Frank, of Virginia Beach, Leonard Myrtle and his wife, Lynn of Nelson County, Mark Sawyer and his wife, Elizabeth, of Franklin, Debra Duck and her husband, Eddie, Lisa Lohr and her husband Tracy, all of Hanover, Va., Donnie Raymond and his wife, Alison of Green County; nine great-grandchildren, Troy Cox and his wife, Becky, Rebecca and Nicholas Myrtle, Joey Robben, Stephanie, Brian and Kevin Lohr, Aaron and Jenna Raymond; and three great-great-grandchildren, Brittany, David and Bodhi Cox. Mr. Rittenhouse was a longtime resident of Virginia Beach and had lived with his daughter Barbara and her husband, Don, since his wife's death. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville. Interment will follow at Alberene Cemetery, Alberene.
