Obituary: Jerry Lee Saunders The Daily Progress, Friday, August 26, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, aquaair@erols.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerry Lee Saunders, 61, of Arrington, died Sunday, August 24, 2003, at his residence after a brief illness. Jerry was born June 7, 1942, in Arrington, son of the late Lester Alexander Saunders Jr. and Mary Oakley Saunders. He was an active member of Woodland Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and was the owner of Colleen Exxon and Drive Inn and the J.L. Saunders and Sons Construction Co. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved farming. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Nancy Umbarger Saunders, his sons, Jerry Lee Saunders Jr. and wife Sabrina and Robert Lester Saunders and wife Lisa, all of Arrington. Two grandchildren, Laura and Danielle Saunders, a brother, Larry D. Saunders and wife Carole of Arrington; a sister Mary Leslie Bailey and husband Jack of Eatonton, Ga.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Annie Umbarger of Arrington, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Woodland Baptist Church in Colleen with the Rev. David Blevins officiating with interment in the Woodland Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church and suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the building fund of Woodland Baptist Church; 4434 Thomas Nelson Highway, Arrington, Va. 22922.
