Simpson Raymond Walstrum Simpson, 77, died peacefully in his sleep during the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital. Born on July 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Cassius Lee and Nora Jane Simpson of Schuyler. He also was preceded in death by one brother , Cecil Simpson, and a sister, Beryl Roberts both from Schuyler. Mr. Simpson is survived by two sisters, Ellen Thomas of Charlottesville and Jane Lee Drumheller of Madison Heights; two sons, Michael Simpson, and his wife, Barbara, and two sons, Ethan and Blake, and David Simpson, and his wife, Patricia, and their daughter, Grace, all of Charlottesville; and his special friend and companion Bernice Griffo, and former wife, Joyce Lee, both of Charlottesville. Mr. Simpson was a veteran of the Charlottesville Police Department, having faithfully served the community for 33 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the American Foreign Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Police, Thompson Hall Lodge 5, where he was a past president. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War 11 and was stationed for periods in China, Burma and India. Raymond requested a simple closed-casket service and wished to forego much of the formality traditionally associated with funerals. In accordance with his wishes, a grave-side-service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in Montecello Memorial Garden Cemetery, across from Michie Tavern on Route 53. In lieu of flowers , the family requests donations be sent to the New York Fraternal Order of Police World Trade Center Fund, c/o Robert Lucente, 911 Police Plaza Hicksville, N.Y.11801.
