Obituary: James Carlton Simpson, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, March 6, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------------------- James Carlton Simpson, 81, of Craigtown Road, Shipman, died Tuesday night, March 4, 2003, at his residence. Born July 23, 1921, at Shipman, (Nelson County), he was a son of the late Tinsley M. Simpson and Lottie Harris Simpson White. He was a member of Shipman Baptist Church, a World War II Army Veteran, a recipient of the Purple Heart Award, a 50 year member of Fleetwood Harmony Masonic Lodge # 46 AF & AM of Shipman, and a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Highways with over 28 years of service. He is survived by his devoted and dedicated wife, Pauline Scruggs Simpson, their loving daughter, Deloris S. Simpson of Key West, Fla.; a brother, Howard Edward (Skeeter) Simpson of Shipman; a niece, Janet Shifflett of Orange; two nephews, Glenn L. Simpson of Lynchburg and Charles (Eddie) Simpson of Shipman; three great- nieces, Betty Lou Bryant, Donna Fitzgerald and Hope Pappas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Christine M. Browning. A service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. March 8, 2003, in Shipman Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Massie, the Rev. John Campbell and Dr. Michael Fitzgerald officiating with interment to follow in the Craigtown Cemetery with Military rites accorded by Withers-Hughes VFW Post # 7701 of Colleen and Masonic Rites accorded by Fleetwood Harmony Masonic Lodge # 46 AF & AM. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and suggest that memorials in Jim's memory be made to Shipman Baptist Church, 746 Craigtown Road, Shipman, Va. 22971.
