Obituary: Lester Purvis Smith, Sr., 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, Saturday, November 01, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, aquaair@erols.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHIPMAN - Lester Purvis Smith, Sr., 64, of Shipman (Nelson County), died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003 at his residence. Born July 26, 1939 in Nelson County, he was a son of the late William Norvell Smith and Evelyn Perry Smith. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, John Smith and James Smith. He was a retired electrician with Central Virginia Electric Co. with 15 years of service, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Wright Smith; his daughter, Mary Darlene Casillas and his son, Lester P. Smith, Jr. both of Shipman; seven sisters, Evelyn Johnson and Margaret Gilbert, both of Lynchburg, Kathleen Ramsey of Arrington, Susie Stevens of Madison Heights, Virginia Johnson of Amherst, Bessie and Judy Smith, both of Lovingston; two brothers, Jesse Smith of Lovingston and Douglas Smith of Lynchburg; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 3, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston with Rev. John P.Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home and suggest that memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Piedmont at 1490 Pantops Mtn. Pl. Charlottesville, VA 22911.
