Obituary: Charles Walter Spencer, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, June 3, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, aquaair@erols.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Walter Spencer Jr., 80, of Shipman Community, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at his residence. Born May 31, 1932, at Oak Ridge in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Charles W. Spencer Sr., and Eva Burnett Spencer. He was a retired service manager with Kaplin Crawford Dodge in Marlo Height, Md., a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of Shipman Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Irene Baker Spencer on September 9, 1999. He is survived by his five sons, Richard W. Spencer and his wife, Wally, of Byrans Rd., Md., Larry C. Spencer and his wife, Madison Elizabeth, of Schuyler, Donald T. Spencer of Chesapeake, Md., Ronald B. Spencer and Thomas B. Spencer, both of Tuscon, Ariz.; one brother, Al Ray Spencer of Lynchburg; three sisters, Janet S. Miller of Shipman, Mildred S. Bond of Lynchburg and Evelyn S. Hillis of Hyattesville, Md., seven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 11 a.m. from Shipman Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Massie and the Rev. John Campbell officiating with interment in the Davis Cemetery at Shipman. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and ask that memorials take the form of contributions to Shipman Baptist Church, in Care of Mrs. Pauline Simpson, 746 Craigtown Rd., Shipman, Va. 22971 or Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Withers/Hughes V.F.W. Post # 7701 of Colleen.
