Obituary: Velma Laura (Lawhorn) Strickland, 2002 Source: The Daily Progress and The News and Advance, Nov 27, 2002 Contruibutor: Dennis Truslow ------------------------------------------------------------------- Velma Laura (Lawhorn) Strickland, 72, of Tyro died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002. Born in Nelson County, May 31, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Rosa Lawhorne. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard Parrish Strickland, on Sept. 6, 1997. Laura retired from Nelson County High School as a bus driver and cafeteria manager. She was an avid gardener and willingly shared her delicious canned goods. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her for her beautiful smile and her kind and loving ways. Survivors include one son, Howard Strickland and his wife, Linda, of Tyro and several nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home with burial in Jonesboro Cemetery.
