NELSON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Sidney Rodger Smith, 13 Jan 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Source: The Daily Progress, Thursday, January 15, 2004 Sidney Rodger Smith, 67, of Nellysford, (Nelson County), died Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, 2004, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Born on Feb. 10, 1936, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Howard C. Smith and Mary Tinnell Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean conflict, a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church near Lovingston and a retired equipment operator with Faulconer Construction of Charlottesville. He is survived by his wife, Janice Berry Smith; four daughters and their husbands, Norma Tuslow and William, Diane Purvis and James, Tammy Matheny and Jerry all of Nellysford, and Linda Smith and fiance Tom Haley of Charlottesville; one grandson, James Rodger Truslow, and three granddaughters, Dianna Benson, Jennifer Knotts and Christine Wade, all of Nellysford; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Truslow and Amber Benson. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston, with Dr. Timothy G. Mink officiating. Interment will be in Ridgecrest Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by VFW Post #7701 of Colleen. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and suggest that memorials take the form of contributions to the Wintergreen Rescue Squad, The Rockfish Valley Fire Department or Hospice of the Piedmont.
