Obituary: Mary Loving (Saunders) Thaxton, 2003 Source: The daily Progress, February 24, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mary Loving Saunders Thaxton, 86, formerly of Roseland, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born March 30, 1916, in Nelson County, she was a daughter of the late William Richard Saunders and Annie Loving Saunders. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Fields Thaxton; a daughter, Mary Frances Thaxton Murphy; and two brothers, William Richard Saunders Jr., and John Shelton Saunders. Mary Loving was a former Postmaster of Roseland, and served as a past president of the Virginia Chapter of the National League of Postmasters of U.S. She was a member and actively involved with Bethlehem United Methodist Church, the Nelson County Garden Club, Nelson County Woman's Club, where she served as president, and a past member of the Winton Country Club. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Thaxton Harvey and her husband, Thomas Bland Harvey, of Roseland, Lelia "Jonni" Thaxton Hatcher and her husband, C. Wylie Hatcher of St. Augustine, Fla.; one sister, Anne Saunders Clarkson of Arrington; nine grandchildren; her devoted, care-giving, and loving granddaughter, Melanie Harvey Fastabend of Lynchburg, Marion Harvey Tyler of Raleigh, N.C., John Daniel Berrey of Madison Heights, Julie Hatcher Zulcosky of Orlando, Fla., Charles Thaxton Hatcher, also of Orlando, Fla., Courtney Virginia Harvey of Tasley, Anne Thaxton Jarrett of Jacksonville, Fla., Francee Harvey Laverty of Palmyra, and John Thaxton Hatcher of Orlando, Fla.; and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. Randall Harlow officiating. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roseland Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 39, Roseland, Va. 22967.
