Obituary: Beatrice Elizabeth (Tomes) Thornton, 1984 Source: Unknown newspaper Contributor: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------------- SHERANDO - Mrs. Beatrice Elizabeth Thornton, 71, of Rt. 1, Box 369, Lyndhurst, died Tuesday morning (May 1, 1984) in Waynesboro Community Hospital. She was born in Sherando April 6, 1913, a daughter of the late William Lawrence and Maudie (Truslow) Tomes. She was a member of Sherando United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Frank Thornton Jr. on Dec. 1, 1974; a daughter, Mrs Frances Gwin, on May 17, 1982; a brother, Grover W. Tomes, on June 17, 1983. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Eric T. (Beatrice) Coiner of Sherando; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Arey and Mrs. Earl (Rachael) Zimmerman, both of Waynesboro; four grand- children, Walter Allen Taylor, Travis Thornton Gwin, Jodie Ann Coiner and Kelly Elizabeth Coiner. A funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. Thursday in Sherando United Methodist Church by the Revs. Bob Throckmorton, Roy Kister and Stan Shirk, with interment in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Barry T. Robertson, Clifton Pugh, John P. Haden, Stanley Patterson Jr., John M. Hodge, Rodney Johnson, Jesse Bridge and Edgar E. Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Patterson, Roger Bryant Sr., R.N. Harmon, Sidney Shirley, Maynard Patterson, C.G. Patterson, B.G. Fitzgerald, Chester R. Fitzgerald, Raymond Courtney, Zane Mize, James Lipes Jr., Don Hall and Dr. John W. Forbes III. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew or Sherando United Methodist Church.
