Obituary: Withers Horsley "Red" Thompson, 2002 Source: The News and Advance, Oct. 15, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow --------------------------------------------------------------- Withers Horsley "Red" Thompson, 79, of 309 Meadows Drive, Forest, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at his residence. He was the husband of Geraldine Flinchum Thompson. Red was born May 23, 1923, in Nelson County, the son of the late James Thompson and Eliza Lawhorne Thompson. He retired from Wilson Trucking after 35 years of service and was a member of Moose Lodge 1727 and West Lynchburg Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Dianne Thompson, and a stepson, Clay White. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Earl W. Thompson of Lynchburg, Ralph E. Thompson of Forest and Kenneth L. Thompson and his wife, Peggy, of Fredericksburg; three stepchildren, David W. White and his wife, Carrie, of Lynchburg, Barry O. White and his wife, Susan, of Evington and Amy W. Howard and her husband, Jimmy, of Lynchburg; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. C. Douglas Pillow and Dr. Steve Hundley. The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of the Hills. Whitten Timberlake Chapel is serving the Thompson family.
